How It Started

Give for Kids: A Faithful Beginning Rooted in Scripture and Compassion

Joshua and Melynda Brown asked themselves something simple, yet powerful: “What if we could make giving easier—what if we could build a bridge between generous people and children in need, so every act of kindness led to lasting impact?”

Give for Kids was born from that vision, not just as an initiative, but as a movement of faith-fueled generosity.

Why Orphan Care? Because It’s the Heart of God

Throughout Scripture, God's love for the fatherless is unmistakable.

The earliest laws given to Israel to the teachings of Jesus and the apostles, the Bible repeatedly calls God’s people to care for orphans. Deuteronomy instructed the faithful to share tithes and harvests with the fatherless. Also Job described how he “reared [the orphan] as a father would.” Furthermore The prophets echoed this call with urgency.
But perhaps the most profound truth is found in Psalm 68:5:

God doesn’t just care about the fatherless—it’s part of who He is. And as His people, it’s our calling to reflect His heart.

The Widow’s Oil: A Story That Became Our Mission

In 2 Kings 4:1–7, a widow in distress is told to pour out the little oil she has, as she pours into jars, the oil miraculously doesn’t run out—until every jar is filled. This story where God took something small and multiplied it into more than enough for everyone, became the heartbeat of Give for Kids.

Our belief is when generosity is poured out, no matter how small, it multiplies. A meal. A backpack.
A safe place to sleep. Therefore, one small act of love can ripple into a lifetime of impact.

Melynda’s Perspective: Remember to Give

For Melynda, this mission was never about creating a brand. It was about cultivating hearts that remember to give.

She often spoke about living with open eyes and open hands—looking for those who are often overlooked: children, widows, the vulnerable.

“Generosity is not just writing a check,” she said. “It’s about showing up, being aware and acting in love.”

From Local Moments to Global Mission

Our work began as covering school supplies or delivering meals has grown into support for orphanages in Romania, trauma care in Ukraine, and foster care services in Georgia. Along the way, Give for Kids has remained grounded in faith and guided by trusted partnerships through Buford Church of God.

Therefore, Joshua and Melynda’s work isn’t just about giving—it’s about relationship, trust, and transformation.
